Founded in April 1906 by Mr. W.K.Hodge, Bedford Camera Club exists to promote the photographic interests of its members, to develop members photographic appreciation and abilities and to facilitate the exchange of information and ideas on photographic and allied subjects.

In the early days, most photographs were in black & white but with advances in film technology, colour slides became more prominent and the club involvement more competitive. In more recent times colour prints have become popular, although black & white prints still form an important part of photographic art.

In both print and slide work, several members have achieved regional, national and even international recognition.

Since its inception, members of Bedford Camera Club have pursued photography as a hobby, seeing it as a medium for self expression and using the club as a forum for discussion. It is one of the largest clubs in the East Anglia region and is one of the oldest members in the Federation of Photographic Societies which is affiliated to the Photographic Alliance of Great Britain.

By virtue of its membership, Bedford Camera Club members are able to participate in events which are organized or sponsored by these groups.

A varied club programme of meetings consisting of lectures and demonstrations by leading photographers, and competitions with outside judges is offered. We also run an annual exhibition which has been held regularly since the club started in 1906.

In addition to all this the club takes part in external competitions and there are summer meetings and many other activities, including practical, portfolio and digital imaging groups that meet occasionally throughout the year. Members are entitled to participate in any or all, of these activities.

Photography is one of the most popular pursuits; as an adjunct of another interest or for picture taking in its own right. Whatever your interests you can be assured of a warm welcome at our meetings whether just starting out or as an experienced photographer.
